PROJECT OVERVIEW

Pro Media installed the original system for American Airlines Center in 2001 when the building was constructed. When the owners of the Mavericks and Stars decided they wanted to upgrade the center hung video board to a larger display, the current sound system configuration would not support the new video board footprint. In May 2009, American Airlines Center contacted Pro Media to bid on the new design. In July, Pro Media received authorization to proceed based on the accelerated construction schedule requiring Pro Media to engineer, remove the old system and install the new one by September.

The sound system design is based on a distributive sound system, consisting of 60 JBL line array loudspeakers covering the main bowl seating, which are powered by 50 Crown MAi amplifiers, and signal processing provided by 6 BSS London’s. Amplifier and signal processing is controlled and monitored throughout the facility via a central core network.

In addition to the upgrade, we installed an effects system allowing the operator to track video and 16 tracks of sound effects. This is the first facility in the United States to implement this.
